<p>5. <strong>Free Cantonese Theology Q &amp; A meeting</strong><strong> </strong>In the past 10 years, China Horizon has been conducting courses and seminars in Bible doctrine with the conviction that the Bible is God’s inspired, inerrant Word, and that there is a body of doctrine contained in the Bible, which we must study to know, love, obey, share, and defend. Dr. Samuel Ling (M.Div., Th.M, Westminster Theological Seminary), President of Covenant Institute and China Horizon (<a href="http://www.chinahorizon.org/">http://www.chinahorizon.org</a>) has conducted seminary-level theological training courses in the DC area in Mandarin. On December 3, 2009, China Horizon and Covenant Institute will conduct a free theological Q &amp; A in <em>Cantonese</em> at Chinese Christian Church in Silver Spring at 7:30 pm. We encourage you and invite friends to attend this special meeting, please don’t miss.</p>

<p>Prayer and praise will be our power house: ‘“Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”  We urge all believers to raise up the church in prayers, expecting God to move and act.  Jesus says the harvest is already plentiful but we must pray (Mt 9:38). Let us continue the habit of spending time with God daily. Let CCC to be a house of prayer for all peoples.</p>

<li>Pray for those who      find the holidays a lonely and depressing time.  Make us aware of how and where to reach out.</li>

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD</strong> Help us tell children around the world about the love of Jesus by filling a shoe box with gifts which will be supplemented with Christian literature and sent to children who do not know Jesus. You may also bring small gift items (school supplies, small toys, hard candies, etc) and the Sunday School children will pack the shoe boxes.  Look for the collection box outside the nursery Room 202.  Directions and brochure are on the bulletin board leading to the Hung Memorial Hall.  Deadline is Thanksgiving Sunday, November 22, 2009.</p>

<p>3.        <strong>CHURCH PICNIC </strong>The church&#8217;s annual picnic will be on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Capital View Homewood Park, 2929 Edgewood Road, Kensington, MD.  One joint service will be held at the park at 11 am.  No services will be held at the church that day.  Please sign up on the bulletin board if you plan to attend so that we can calculate food and transportation needs.  Pick up a flyer from the bulletin board for details.  Everyone is welcome.</p>

<p>4.        <strong>JUNE IS SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH</strong><sup> </sup> Next Sunday, police officers will give a talk about safety in the community at 1 pm.  If you have a medical background or know CPR, please let Theresa or the office know (<a href="&#109;a&#105;lt&#111;:l&#105;&#110;&#100;&#97;&#64;c&#99;cd&#99;&#46;co&#109;" target="_blank">&#108;&#105;nda&#64;cc&#99;&#100;&#99;&#46;c&#111;m</a>) so that we can list you in the Safety Manual that is being developed.</p>

<p>7.        <strong>WALK THRU THE NEW TESTAMENT</strong> Reserve August 7-9, 2009 for the annual Summer Retreat at Messiah College.  The program fits in perfectly with the church&#8217;s theme this year, Daily with the King.  It will be a marvelous opportunity to spend more time understanding the Word as well as fellowship with one another.  Registration brochure is on the bulletin board.</p>

<li> Pray for the sanctuary renovation phase of the church &#8211; that our architect will find creative ways to meet our needs and challenges. Pray for unity of spirit as we discuss the details of design and fundraising.</li>
<li> Pray for the strengthening of the restaurant fellowship outreach</li>
<li>Pray for      the Official Board as they discuss and determine policies and  programs for the church.</li>
</ul>
<p>Pray for individual spiritual growth:</p>

<li> <em>By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another</em>. John 13:35 It is possible with our persistence and the Holy Spirit to love someone into the kingdom. Is there someone you know who is not yet saved that you can pray for and lead to Christ?<em></em></li>
<li> <em>Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.</em> Ephesians 4:2 Think of one&#8217;s own rough edges and how others have loved you in spite of them. Can we do likewise?<em></em></li>

<p>1.        <strong>YOUTH MISSION FUNDRAISING </strong>Seven of our youth and sponsors will be going on a Youthworks Family Mission trip, August 2-6, 2009 to Schuylkill County, PA.  Please pray for their preparations and the people they will serve in this depressed area which is struggling to build an economic base which formerly relied on the coal industry.  The Sunday School will sponsor a bake sale on Father&#8217;s Day to raise funds for the trip.  Please contact Kathy or Theresa for details about the bake sale.  Your donation as a baker or consumer will be most appreciated!<strong></strong></p>

<p>2.        <strong>FATHER&#8217;S DAY CELEBRATION </strong>The Cantonese Fellowship has planned a special outing to the National Arboretum, 3501 New York Avenue, NE followed by lunch at the church on Saturday, June 20, 2009.  Transportation will be provided from the church at 9:30 am for those needing a ride.  Please contact Pui Han or Monica for details or to make reservations.<strong></strong></p>

<p>3.        <strong>JUNE IS SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH</strong><sup> </sup>The Safety Committee will highlight other safety tips and practices during the month of June.</p>
<p>4.        <strong>ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES</strong> There are two classes meeting on Sunday morning at 9:45 am:</p>

<li> College and Young Adult in Room 301 led by Garrett. Reconnect with God and friends this summer.</li>
<li> What&#8217;s So Amazing about Grace by Philip Yancey is the topic for the adult class meeting in Room 102. See Peter for details.</li>

<p>5.        <strong>GRADUATE INFORMATION</strong><sup> </sup>Graduates will be honored on Father&#8217;s Day, June 21.  If you are celebrating a graduation in your family, please email information about the graduate to <a href="&#109;&#97;ilt&#111;:lin&#100;&#97;&#64;&#99;&#99;cd&#99;.co&#109;" target="_blank">&#108;&#105;nd&#97;&#64;c&#99;&#99;&#100;c&#46;&#99;&#111;&#109;</a>.  We would like to have the name, degree and school attended.</p>
<p>6.        <strong>WALK THRU THE NEW TESTAMENT</strong> Reserve August 7-9, 2009 for the annual Summer Retreat at Messiah College.  The program fits in perfectly with the church&#8217;s theme this year, Daily with the King.  It will be a marvelous opportunity to spend more time understanding the Word as well as fellowship with one another.  Registration brochure is on the bulletin board.</p>
<p>7.        <strong>CHANGES IN TRAFFIC </strong>Work on the Chinatown Arch (7<sup>th</sup> &amp; H) beginning June 1 thru July 31 may affect traffic in the surrounding area. Watch for signs.<strong></strong></p>

<p>Prayer and praise will be our power house: &#8216;&#8221;Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,&#8217; says the Lord Almighty.&#8221;  We urge all believers to raise up the church in prayers, expecting God to move and act.  Jesus says the harvest is already plentiful but we must pray (Mt 9:38). Let us continue the habit of spending time with God daily. Let CCC to be a house of prayer for all peoples.</p>
<p>Pray for brothers and sisters in Christ:</p>
<ul class="unIndentedList">
<li> Those in need of healing and strength and other individuals who are ill or recuperating from surgery. Pray also for those who provide support and care.</li>
<li> Thank God for those who are seeking to serve Him in short-term missions. Pray for their safety and stamina.</li>
</ul>
<p>Pray for needs of the church:</p>
<ul class="unIndentedList">
<li> Pray for the planning of summer activities in the church &#8211; the annual picnic, the Summer Retreat, the mission trips, the children&#8217;s program.</li>
<li> Pray for the English Associate Pastor search &#8211; that we may trust God&#8217;s timing for scheduling and leading His chosen one to us.</li>
<li> Pray for the sanctuary renovation phase of the church &#8211; that our architect will find creative ways to meet our needs and challenges. Pray for unity of spirit as we discuss the details of design and fundraising.</li>
</ul>
<p>Pray for individual spiritual growth:</p>

<li> <em>Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ&#8217;s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation</em>-Colossians 1:21-22 As we take the bread and cup today, we are reminded why Jesus is our Lord.<em></em></li>

<p>1.        <strong>CONGREGATION MEETING JUNE 7</strong> The architect will be presenting his ideas for Phase II sanctuary renovations at 1 pm in the sanctuary.</p>
<p>2.        <strong>SAFETY MEASURE</strong> The Trustees have authorized the purchase of six 2-way radios to be used for locating individuals for urgent matters and emergency situations when worship and other events are being held throughout the building.  They will also be used by staff during the week.  The Motorola CLS1110 is suited for churches, schools, and office buildings. Since this is not a budgeted item, donations for covering this expenditure would be welcome. See Linda or Lindy , Trustee Chair, if you are interested in making a donation toward this project.</p>
<p>3.        <strong>ENGLISH FELLOWSHIP</strong> will have an extra fellowship night this month on May 15 at Tom and Joanne&#8217;s.  Potluck dinner will begin at 7:00 pm.  Please contact them to indicate your potluck dish or if you need a ride from metro. <strong></strong></p>
<p>4.        <strong>BIBLE LISTENING CD</strong> &#8220;You&#8217;ve Got the Time&#8221; is a 40-day plan to listen to the New Testament.  Free English and Cantonese CDs are available in the narthex.  Our emphasis this year in Building a People for God&#8217;s Kingdom is on spending time daily with God &#8211; the CD will be a helpful resource.</p>

<p>5.      <strong>HELPING HANDS MINISTRY</strong> The Membership Committee is starting a new project to meet church member needs with teen servant hands.  Purpose and Vision: John 13:34-35, <em>&#8220;A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples&#8230;&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Though the great commission calls us to be witnesses to the ends of the earth, we believe that the mission field can start here at our own church. It is our goal to share the love of Christ through the act of serving. Our youth are eager to share that love and learn what it means to serve Christ by serving others.  So if you have a job that you could use some extra hands to complete, let us know. <li> Pray for wisdom and strength for the committees of the Board &#8211; thank God for their dedicated work behind the scenes.</li>
<li> Pray for the Ministry Teams for each congregation &#8211; that they will be sensitive to the needs of congregation members and a support to the pastors.</li>
<li> Pray for the English Associate Pastor search &#8211; that we may trust God&#8217;s timing for scheduling and leading His chosen one to us.</li>
<li> Pray for the sanctuary renovation phase of the church &#8211; that we may be of one mind in the planning and persevering in the fund-raising. Pray for God&#8217;s hand to be both our building plan details and in our fund-raising plans.</li>
</ul>
<p>Pray for individual spiritual growth:</p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>&#8220;Because he loves me,&#8221; says the LORD, &#8220;I will      rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call      upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will      deliver him and honor him<em>.</em> Psalm      91:14-15  What a promise to hold on      to no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in!  Thank God for his unfailing love.</li>
<li>Not so with you.  Instead,      whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever      wants to be first must be slave to all. For even the Son of Man did not      come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for      many.  Mark 10:41-45        Jesus      was teaching that true greatness is helping others with a God-centered      heart.  Could very well be a      description of our moms &#8211; may we all learn from their example.</li>

</strong>Prayer and praise will be our power house: ‘&#8221;Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,&#8217; says the Lord Almighty.&#8221;  We urge all believers to raise up the church in prayers, expecting God to move and act.  Jesus says the harvest is already plentiful but we must pray (Mt 9:38). Let us continue the habit of spending time with God daily. Let CCC to be a house of prayer for all peoples.</p>
<p>Pray for brothers and sisters in Christ:</p>
<ul>
<li>Those in need of healing and strength -Pray also for those who provide support and care.</li>
<li>The families mourning the loss of loved ones</li>
<li>Pray for conversion experiences for those who are seeking the Lord.  May CCC be supportive and encouraging to those who are not yet strong in their faith.</li>
<li>Pray for those in baptism classes.  May they gain a clear understanding of their relationship with God.</li>
<li>Pray for the new little ones in our church family.  May we encourage their parents to raise their children to walk with the Lord and provide opportunities to help them grow.</li>
</ul>
<p>Pray for needs of the church:</p>
<ul>
<li>Pray for the Chinese Retreat &#8211; that Prof. Chang may inspire those in attendance to a closer walk with the Lord and that all the planning details will fall into place.</li>
<li>Pray for the English Associate Pastor search &#8211; that we may trust God&#8217;s timing for scheduling and leading His chosen one to us.</li>
<li>Pray for the sanctuary renovation phase of the church &#8211; that we may be of one mind in the planning and persevering in the fund-raising.</li>
</ul>
<p>Pray for individual spiritual growth:</p>
<ul>
<li>All the prophets testify about Jesus of Nazareth that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.  Acts 10:43  Pray that the Easter message has renewed your hope for eternal life knowing how great God&#8217;s love is for you.   Say daily from your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord!</li>
<li>&#8220;Though the mountains be shaken and the hills removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,&#8221; says the LORD, who has compassion on you.  Isaiah 54:10  For thousands of years the prophets have assured us of the constancy of God&#8217;s love and plan for us.</li>
