but the wise listen to advice.
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (NIV)4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

Reflect on His Word for us:

  1. Do I have a trusted brother and sister in Christ that I can prayerfully discern with?
  2. Do I have a Christian mentor-figure that can help me with discernment?
  3. In the important decisions I’m making, do I have a way of sharing with others in order to hear their encouragement, advice, and even rebuke?

We must avoid the temptation to discern the leading of the Spirit as individuals.  The Holy Spirit has come upon all of God’s people and the Spirit is here to lead us as a community.  We must also learn to surround ourselves with wise counsel if we are to discover what God desires for our lives.
