Advent Week 3 – Joy

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:1-2

  1. The Joy is Set Before Us
    1. Hebrews 12:1-2, “…for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, …”
    2. Romans 8:16-27
    3. When the emotions of happiness aren’t there, how can you possibly have joy?  Have a forward focus on the joy that is to tome!
  2. The Joy is Now and Forever
    1. Philippians 4:4-5, Rejoice in the Lord always…”
    2. We are new creations in Christ!
    3. Romans 8:38-39
    4. When we depend on the things of this world to bring us joy, when things go wrong it’s going to feel a lot like our life is over.
    5. The Lord is at hand!  Let us anticipate what is to come this Advent season.
    6. Romans 5:2
    7. We have the presence of our Lord with us now through the Holy Spirit, and it is sealed with His love!
